Alt-idol

Alt-idol, short for "alternative idol," upends the conventional idol genre typically associated with polished pop and innocent aesthetics by injecting an edgier, more experimental vibe. Blending the idol format with genres such as punk, metal, electronic, and avant-garde pop, alt-idol groups, which often consist of female performers, challenge norms and push the boundaries of performance art. The music is characterized by its adventurous and unconventional soundscapes, combining catchy idol-style melodies with aggressive instrumentals and diverse vocal styles that can range from sweet to screaming. The visual aspect is also eclectic, featuring outfits and makeup that stray from mainstream idol fashion, often embracing a more rebellious or artistic look. This subculture provides a platform for performers and fans alike who are searching for a niche that celebrates the idol concept with a daring twist.
