Gumbe

Gumbe, also known as gumbé, is a rhythmic and upbeat musical genre that originated among the creole populations of Guinea-Bissau, blending influences from West African rhythms, Portuguese music, and various Afro-Latin genres. It is characterized by its distinctive 4/4 rhythm and use of traditional instruments like the 'gumbe' drum (from which the genre takes its name), guitars, and sometimes modern electronic instrumentation. The genre serves both as a spirited form of social commentary and a catalyst for dance, with lyrics often sung in Portuguese Creole, reflecting the cultural fusion inherent to the music.
