Opm

OPM (Original Pilipino Music) is a genre that embodies the Philippines' rich musical heritage, characterized by a unique blend of folk, rock, pop, and indigenous influences. Emerging in the 1970s and gaining momentum in the 1990s, OPM is marked by its soulful vocal deliveries, often in Filipino languages, and eclectic instrumentation, which can range from traditional ensembles to modern electronic elements. The genre's emotive, heartfelt soundscapes often explore themes of love, social justice, and national identity. OPM's cultural significance lies in its ability to express the country's diverse experiences and emotions, making it a staple of Philippine popular culture. While drawing from international styles, OPM maintains a distinct flavor, often incorporating local rhythms and melodies, setting it apart from neighboring Asian pop styles. Its modern iterations have also been shaped by hip-hop and R&B influences, further diversifying its sonic palette.
