Utopia Ensemble

The Utopia Ensemble is a vocal group founded in 2015, consisting of five Belgian singers: Griet De Geyter, Bart Uvyn, Adriaan De Koster, Lieven Termont, and Bart Vandeweghe. This ensemble specializes in vocal music from the 16th and early 17th centuries, with a focus on polyphony. The group's name is inspired by Thomas More's book "Utopia," written in Antwerp in 1516, and they aim to incorporate social themes into their projects. Utopia Ensemble has performed at various festivals and concert stages across Europe and has released several albums, including music by lesser-known composers like Andreas Pevernage. They are based in Antwerp, where they are the ensemble in residence at the Sint-Pauluskerk.

Recent releases by the Utopia Ensemble include works such as "Requiem for an Emperor" and "The Musical Universe of Andreas Pevernage," showcasing their dedication to early music and lesser-known composers. Their performances and recordings highlight a rich, homogeneous sound that reflects the ensemble's passion for polyphonic music. Utopia Ensemble continues to engage in interdisciplinary projects, such as the Utopia Festival Day, which explores social themes through music and collaboration.
