Large Professor

Large Professor, born William Paul Mitchell on March 21, 1973, and also known as Large Pro and Xtra P, is a revered figure in the world of hip-hop, known for his skills as an MC, DJ, and particularly for his prowess as a record producer. Emerging from Flushing, Queens, New York, Large Professor became a prominent force in the early '90s, initially gaining widespread recognition for his work with the influential group Main Source. Their 1991 album "Breaking Atoms" is a seminal work in the hip-hop canon, showcasing his innovative production techniques and sampling mastery.

After Main Source, Large Professor embarked on a solo career, releasing critically acclaimed works such as "The LP," "1st Class," and "Professor @ Large." Throughout his career, he has been regarded as a mentor and influence to many, including the likes of Nas, whom he introduced to the world on the Main Source track "Live at the Barbeque." His deep, soulful beats and clever, insightful rhymes have made him a respected elder statesman in the hip-hop community. Large Professor continues to shape the genre with his collaborations, singles like "Key to the City," and projects like "Re:Living," while also sharing his knowledge as a visiting professor at the Scratch DJ Academy, embodying the very essence of his moniker.
