Francesc Prat is a versatile conductor and composer known for his open-minded approach to music, balancing his work between symphonic repertoire, opera, and contemporary music creation. He has a strong presence in the contemporary music scenes of Switzerland and Spain, having contributed to events like the Lucerne Festival, Basel Composition Competition, ArtBasel, Berlinale, and Barcelona’s Sónar Festival. His musical education began at the Escolania de Montserrat and continued with studies in oboe, piano, and theory at the Conservatori Superior de Música de Barcelona. He further honed his skills by graduating in oboe at the Musikhochschule Luzern, in composition at the Hochschule für Musik Basel, and in conducting at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.
In opera, Francesc has worked as an assistant to prominent conductors such as Ivor Bolton at Madrid’s Teatro Real, where he made his conducting debut with Wagner’s "Das Liebesverbot" in 2016. He has also collaborated with theaters like Theater Basel, Dutch National Opera, Neuköllner Opera Berlin, Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, and Teatre Lliure in Barcelona. Between 2012 and 2015, he assisted Josep Pons at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and worked with Sebastian Weigle earlier in his career. Besides conducting, he is active as a composer and contributor to specialized music magazines, with some compositions published by BabelScores and Liquen Records.
