Maja Ratkje

Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje, known professionally as Maja Ratkje, is an avant-garde Norwegian composer and performer whose work breaches the boundaries between classical composition, improvisation, and electronic music. Born on December 29, 1973, in Trondheim, Norway, Ratkje has established herself as a force within the experimental music scene, known for her ability to blend raw vocal energy with diverse instrumental textures and digital manipulation.

Ratkje completed her education at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where her experience laid the foundation for her innovative and eclectic career. Her impressive catalogue includes vocal performances, installations, theatrical works, and orchestral compositions. She has been part of the noise duo Fe-mail and collaborated with numerous other artists and ensembles worldwide. Ratkje's music often challenges the conventional and invites listeners to partake in unique sonic landscapes, as evident in distinctive works like "Crepuscular Hour" and "Sult" which showcase her ability to craft enveloping atmospheric soundscapes. With recent releases such as "Maja S.K. Ratkje: And Sing ..." and "RÖKKUR," her persistent exploration of the intersections between sound, technology, and human expression continues to solidify her status as a pioneering voice in contemporary music.
