The Churchills

The Churchills were a pioneering Israeli rock band that burst onto the scene in the late 1960s, blending psychedelic vibes with raw energy and becoming one of the country's first major rock acts. Formed in Tel Aviv in 1965, the group featured British singer Robb Huxley, guitarist Haim Romano, bassist Miki Gavrielov, and drummer Ami Trebich, and they quickly gained a following with their trippy sound influenced by the likes of The Beatles and The Doors. Their self-titled debut album in 1968 was a landmark release, packed with groovy tracks like "Too Much In Love To Hear" and "Talk To Me," and they even collaborated with Israeli music icon Arik Einstein on the experimental album "Poozy" in 1969, which mixed rock with local flavors.

Though they disbanded in the early 1970s after lineup changes and a shift toward more progressive sounds—like their wild take on Bach in "Churchill's Sebastian Bach"—The Churchills left a lasting legacy as trailblazers in Israeli music. They've seen renewed interest through reissues and compilations, proving their music still resonates with fans of vintage psych-rock. If you're into that era's underground scene, their stuff is a total gem!
