Emil Afrasiyab is an Azerbaijani pianist and composer known for his unique blend of classical, jazz, and traditional Azerbaijani music. Born in Baku in 1950, Afrasiyab began playing the piano at a young age and went on to study at the Baku Music Academy. His music often incorporates elements of mugham, a traditional Azerbaijani vocal genre, and he has collaborated with musicians from around the world, including jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Herbie Hancock.
