Fuel is an American rock band renowned for their grunge-influenced melodies and passionate lyrics that emerged during the late 1990s and early 2000s alternative rock wave. The band was originally formed in 1994 by songwriter and guitarist Carl Bell, bassist Jeff Abercrombie, lead vocalist Brett Scallions, and drummer Jody Abbott. Scallions' driving vocal timbre combined with Bell's songwriting prowess propelled Fuel into the mainstream with their 1998 full-length debut, "Sunburn," which included the hit single "Shimmer." Their next album, "Something Like Human" in 2000, spawned the hits "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" and "Bad Day," reinforcing their presence on the rock scene.
After several lineup changes and a brief hiatus, Fuel continues to evolve while staying true to their hard rock roots. With Scallions returning to the forefront as the face and voice of the band, Fuel's later works, such as "Puppet Strings" (2014), showcase a matured sound that remains loyal to the band's initial energy and emotionality. "Puppet Strings" marked the first Fuel album to not feature any of the original members other than Scallions and the first album since 2003 to feature him. While "Angels & Devils" (2007) and "Natural Selection" (2003) are reminiscent of the band's earlier anthems, newer tracks like "Two Hearts" and "I'm Gone" from their latest offering, "ÅNOMÅLY" (2021), exhibit the band's persistent drive to deliver forceful rock music to a dedicated fanbase. Despite the industry's shifts and challenges, Fuel's tenacity and dedication to its craft have assured the band a lasting legacy in the rock genre.
