Franghiz Ali-Zadeh is an Azerbaijani composer and pianist who has gained international recognition for her unique blend of traditional Azerbaijani music with contemporary classical and jazz influences. Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 1947, Ali-Zadeh began studying piano at the age of six and later attended the Baku Music Academy. Her compositions often incorporate elements of mugham, a traditional Azerbaijani vocal genre, and she has collaborated with musicians from around the world, including jazz saxophonist John Zorn and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Ali-Zadeh's music has been praised for its emotional depth, rhythmic complexity, and innovative use of traditional instruments.
