Amanda Keesmaat is a Montreal-based Baroque cellist known for her beautiful tone and sensitivity in ensemble performances. She began playing the cello at the age of four and later studied at the University of Western Ontario before pursuing an artist diploma at McGill University, where she was introduced to Baroque music. Keesmaat has played with various ensembles, including the Orchestre Baroque du Montreal, and has learned from renowned musicians such as Betsy McMillan and Jaap ter Linden. She is also the founder and director of the ensemble Space Time Continuo, where she plays both the cello and the lirone, showcasing her versatility in early music performances.
Keesmaat's work often involves playing bass lines for orchestras and chamber ensembles, particularly in the continuo section, and she has recently been involved in projects that highlight the versatility of lower-voiced instruments in early music.
