Montrose was a hard rock band formed in the early 1970s by guitarist Ronnie Montrose. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1973, is widely regarded as a landmark in American hard rock, featuring future Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar on vocals. With its raw energy and riff-heavy sound, "Montrose" became influential in shaping the hard rock genre and has since gained cult-classic status.
The band followed up with albums like Paper Money (1974), Warner Brothers Presents Montrose! (1975), and Jump On It (1976), but lineup changes, including Hagar's departure, shifted Montrose's sound over time. Despite these changes, Ronnie Montrose's guitar work remained at the core of the band's identity. Although commercial success was moderate during their active years, Montrose's music has endured, influencing generations of rock and metal musicians.
