Ride is an English rock band that formed in 1988 in Oxford, England. Comprising Andy Bell, Mark Gardener, Laurence Colbert, and Steve Queralt, the group became a defining presence in the shoegaze and Britpop scene of the early 1990s. Their sound is characterized by its dreamy, lush guitar textures and melodic, often introspective, songwriting. After a vigorous start with albums like "Nowhere" (1990) and "Going Blank Again" (1992), which earned critical acclaim and a dedicated following, Ride disbanded in 1996 amidst creative differences.
However, the story didn't end there for Ride. Following a hiatus that lasted more than a decade, the band members reconciled and Ride announced a reunion in 2014. They have since been touring and recording new material, tapping into both their vintage sound and exploring new sonic territories. Their comeback album "Weather Diaries" was released in 2017, followed by "This Is Not a Safe Place" in 2019, which saw collaborations that reimagined their music, including the works of Pêtr Aleksänder. This phase of their career showcases a matured sound while remaining true to the ethereal resonance that originally captured their fans' hearts.
