Fred J. Allen

Fred J. Allen is a renowned figure in the music education field, particularly known for his work as a band director and educator. Born on November 14, 1953, in Longview, Texas, Allen grew up in a musical family and began his musical journey with piano lessons. He later transitioned to playing the cornet and eventually became proficient in multiple instruments, including saxophone, oboe, and viola. Allen's career includes teaching at public schools and serving as the Director of Bands at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU) for 24 years. During his tenure at SFASU, he conducted the Wind Ensemble, which performed at several prestigious events, including the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. Allen is also recognized for his compositions and arrangements for band and orchestra, and he has conducted numerous all-region and all-state bands across the United States.

Allen's contributions to music education are notable, as he has mentored many students who have gone on to become successful band directors and educators themselves. He is a member of several professional music organizations, including the American Bandmasters Association and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity.
