**Funland** is a power pop/alternative rock band from Dallas, Texas, formed in 1991. The band's members included Alan Shook, Clark Vogeler, Mike Vanderheiden, Peter Schmidt, Philip Irby, and Will Johnson. They were among several bands from the Dallas scene that gained attention in the wake of Nirvana's success, though Funland did not have a strong indie background. Their first notable release was the *Sweetness* EP in 1993 on Arista Records. The band's style is more aligned with power pop than grunge, and their music received moderate airplay for tracks like "City of Wet Angels" and "Fall Away." However, despite these early signs of promise, Arista did not proceed with a full-length album. Later, they independently released *The Funland Band* in 1995, which was noted for its abrasive sound, akin to that of Archers of Loaf. Funland disbanded, and their members pursued other musical projects.
Post-Funland, some members continued to make significant contributions to the music scene. Will Johnson went on to become a prominent figure in bands like Centro-matic and South San Gabriel. Clark Vogeler joined the Toadies and remains an active member. Peter Schmidt has released solo material and been part of other bands such as The New Year and The Legendary Crystal Chandeliers. Despite occasional rumors of a reunion, Funland has not officially reformed. Their legacy remains tied to their early contributions to the Dallas music scene during the alternative rock era.
