İbrahim Tatlıses (born 1952) is a hugely influential Turkish singer and actor, best known for his powerhouse voice and for helping bring arabesque and Turkish folk styles to massive mainstream popularity. Nicknamed “İmparator” (“The Emperor”) by fans, he became one of Turkey’s defining pop-cultural figures across several decades, with a career that spans hit records, film work, and long-running TV appearances.
His story is also known for a dramatic turning point: in 2011, Tatlıses survived an assassination attempt in Istanbul and later returned to public life. Over the years he’s remained a fixture in Turkish music, with a catalog that continues to be revisited through compilations, re-releases, and new versions of classic material.
