Facing New York is a three-piece progressive indie rock band hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Formed in January 2004, the band originally had five members drawn from the local scene, with some members previously playing in bands like Tragedy Andy and Locale A.M. Known for their guitar-driven progressive pop/rock sound, Facing New York gained early attention with their self-released EP "Swimming Not Treading," which helped them land a deal with Five One, Inc. They released their self-titled debut album in 2005 and toured extensively, including with Rx Bandits, Steel Train, and Taking Back Sunday, as well as playing select dates on the Vans Warped Tour and shows in Japan.
Over the years, Facing New York has been characterized by constant evolution and willingness to challenge listeners, with longtime frontman Eric Frederic now better known as Grammy-nominated producer Ricky Reed. After a long hiatus, the band resurfaced with the release of their album "Dogtown" in December 2018, which reflected nearly a decade of work and was celebrated with live shows in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Their music blends progressive rock and indie rock with a tight, dynamic approach, making them a notable act in the Bay Area indie scene for over a decade.
