Sebastián De Albero

Sebastián de Albero, born Sebastián Ramón de Albero y Añaños on June 10, 1722, in Roncal, Navarra, Spain, was a celebrated Spanish composer and harpsichordist. He began his musical career as a chorister at Pamplona Cathedral from the age of 12, where he refined his skills under the guidance of prominent figures such as Miguel Valls and Andrés de Escáregui. By 1746, Albero had secured the position of organist at the Royal Chapel in Madrid, serving King Ferdinand VI and associating with renowned composers like José de Nebra and Domenico Scarlatti. His compositions include 30 sonatas for harpsichord and a set of six three-movement works, showcasing his mastery of keyboard music during the pre-classical period in Spain.

Albero's music is characterized by a melodic depth and emotional resonance, often described as melancholic and prescient of the style later developed by Chopin. Despite his short life, ending on March 30, 1756, at the age of 33, Albero left a lasting legacy in Spanish musical heritage. His works continue to be celebrated for their beauty and historical significance, offering a glimpse into the musical sophistication of 18th-century Spain.
