Container is the moniker of American noise musician and electronic producer Ren Schofield, originally from Providence, Rhode Island, but now based in London, known for his raw, unrelenting and abrasive approach to experimental techno. Schofield's production under the Container name is characterized by its lo-fi aesthetic, relentless percussion, and jarring, distortion-heavy sequences that blur the lines between techno, noise, and punk ideologies.
The project came to prominence with a series of releases entitled simply "LP", which have served as a confusing, though fascinating, motif in his discography. These records, released periodically since the early 2010s, showcase Schofield's evolution and consistency within his unique sound palette. Other releases like "Creamer", "Rippler", and "Scramblers" continue this trend, offering a gritty, visceral sonic experience that challenges the limits of electronic music production. With releases such as "Nozzle" and "Vegetation EP", Container has managed to gain a committed underground following, while also garnering critical acclaim for pushing the boundaries of what dance music can be, often invoking a powerful physical response from the chaotic yet rhythmic noise.
