Intervals is a progressive metal band that originally started as a solo project by Canadian guitarist and composer Aaron Marshall in 2011. Initially, Intervals was conceived as an outlet for Marshall's intricate guitar work and experimental songwriting outside of the confines of traditional band settings. The project quickly garnered attention with the releases of "In Time" (2012) and "The Space Between" (2013), EPs that showcased a mesh of technical proficiency and melodic sensibility, earning them a dedicated following in the progressive metal community.
With the release of their first full-length album "A Voice Within" in 2014, Intervals evolved into a fully-fledged band, introducing vocal elements to their sound. However, the subsequent release, "The Shape of Colour" in 2015, marked a return to instrumental music and solidified the band's current direction. "The Way Forward" in 2017 and "Circadian" in 2020 further cemented Intervals' reputation for crafting complex, emotive, and rhythmically driven compositions without the need for vocals. Aaron Marshall's progressive vision ensures that each release, including singles like "5-HTP," "Lock & Key," and "String Theory," pushes the boundaries of instrumental metal with a focus on melody, groove, and sonic storytelling.
