Slade

Slade is a British rock band that emerged as one of the most enduring acts of the glam rock movement of the early 1970s. Formed in Wolverhampton in 1966, the group originally called themselves 'The 'N Betweens' but achieved fame as 'Slade' after a lineup solidification around lead vocalist Noddy Holder, guitarist Dave Hill, bassist Jim Lea, and drummer Don Powell. Their no-nonsense approach to rock, coupled with Holder's distinctive and powerful voice, produced a string of hits that are still celebrated today.

Slade's catchy anthems, characterized by their stomping beats and raucous energy, dominated the UK charts throughout the decade. They racked up six No. 1 singles in the UK, including the now canonical holiday classic "Merry Xmas Everybody," and achieved three No. 1 albums. Renowned for their lively and flamboyant live performances, Slade enjoyed a resurgence in the 1980s and influenced a generation of musicians, including bands from the Britpop and heavy metal genres. Despite fluctuations in mainstream popularity and changes in the music industry, the legacy of Slade's anthemic hits and their contribution to the glam rock era endures, as evidenced by compilations and live recordings like "Live and Loud!" and the retrospective collections "The Other Side of Slade - The 70's" and "The Other Side of Slade - The 80's."
