Ferenc Erkel was a Hungarian composer, conductor, and pianist, best known as the father of Hungarian grand opera. Born in 1810, he played a crucial role in shaping Hungary’s national music scene. His most famous work, the opera *Bánk bán*, remains a cornerstone of Hungarian opera repertoire. Erkel also composed *Hunyadi László* and other operas that blended dramatic storytelling with rich orchestration. Besides his operatic contributions, he composed "Himnusz," which became Hungary’s national anthem. As the founding conductor of the Hungarian State Opera and an influential music educator, Erkel left a lasting impact on Hungarian classical music before his passing in 1893.
