Ereb Altor

Ereb Altor is a Swedish metal band that’s been weaving epic tales of Norse mythology and ancient Nordic folklore since their formation in 2003. Hailing from the frostbitten region of Gävle, the band was started by Mats (aka Crippe) and Ragnar, both of whom also helm the doom metal act Isole. Blending Viking metal’s grandeur with the slow, crushing weight of doom, their sound rides a wave of clean, haunting vocals and harsh growls, all backed by thunderous riffs and atmospheric melodies. Albums like *Valkyrian Fate* and *Hälsingemörker* showcase their knack for storytelling, painting vivid scenes of battles, nature, and mystical beings like the forest spirit Skogsrået from their 2023 release.

Though rooted in traditional Scandinavian metal influences (think Bathory’s later work), Ereb Altor keeps things fresh with a dynamic mix of aggression and melody. They’ve evolved from a studio project to a full live act, sharing stages at festivals like Metal Magic and Ragnarök. With recent releases like *The Waves, The Sky and the Pyre* (2023), they continue to honor their Viking metal roots while embracing doom’s gloomy depth—a perfect soundtrack for fog-drenched forests and frosty nights.
