Formed in 2008 by Jake Emissions, the band's name is a deliberate blend of the unexpected, combining "flamingo" with "nosebleed" to reflect their music's mix of pop sensibilities and edgy punk energy. Their sound is influenced by classic punk bands like the Ramones, aiming for catchy melodies with an aggressive edge. Over the years, the band has evolved, with albums like *Degenerate Pop* showcasing a more pronounced pop side, while still maintaining their punk roots. Flamingo Nosebleed's discography also includes *Blood on the Basement Floor* and they have been working on various projects.

The band has experienced lineup changes, with notable members including Jake Emissions, Mike Singleton, and Phill Neiswender. Emissions has also pursued a solo project called Jake Emissions & The Slashers, collaborating with old band members to play both new solo material and Flamingo Nosebleed songs.
