After the Fire was a British rock band that originally formed in the early 1970s. They started out playing progressive rock but gradually shifted their sound toward new wave and synth-pop, which became their signature style. Though they had moderate success in the UK, their biggest international hit came in the early 1980s with a cover of Austrian pop star Falco’s song “Der Kommissar.” The band’s English-language version became a surprise hit in the US, earning them significant radio and MTV airplay.
Known for catchy synth-driven melodies and a polished production style, After the Fire released several albums during their initial run, including Laser Love and 80-F. Despite their US breakthrough, the band disbanded shortly after their success with “Der Kommissar.” However, various compilations, live recordings, and re-releases have kept their music alive for fans of vintage new wave and early ‘80s pop-rock.
