Simian was an English electronic band that formed in 2000. Comprised of members Simon William Lord, Alex MacNaghten, James Ellis Ford, and James Anthony Shaw, the group initially came together while studying at Manchester University. Simian distinguished themselves in the electronic music scene with a unique blend of electronica, alternative rock, and pop, creating a sound that was both innovative and engaging. Their music often combined live instrumentation with electronic production, demonstrating the band's versatility and broad musical talent.
The band released several notable works during their career, including the albums "Chemistry Is What We Are" in 2001 and "We Are Your Friends" in 2002, the latter of which cemented their place in the electronic music scene. Despite critical acclaim, Simian disbanded in 2005, but not before leaving a significant mark with hits like "La Breeze" and "Never Be Alone," the latter of which was famously remixed by Justice into the international hit "We Are Your Friends," achieving enduring popularity in clubs and festivals around the world. Following the split, James Ford and Jas Shaw went on to form Simian Mobile Disco, continuing to explore and influence the electronic music landscape. Simian's innovative approach to music and their contribution to the transition of electronic music into the mainstream remains a significant part of their legacy.
