M83

M83 is the musical project primarily associated with French electronic musician Anthony Gonzalez, who formed the band in the early 2000s in Antibes, France. Named after the spiral galaxy Messier 83, M83 is known for its expansive and dreamy blend of shoegaze, ambient pop, and progressive electronic music. The band caught the public's attention with the release of their self-titled debut album in 2001, but it was their subsequent albums, including "Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts," and "Before the Dawn Heals Us," that really began to shape their signature sound—a cinematic fusion of nostalgic synths, soaring melodies, and lush soundscapes.

M83 achieved widespread acclaim with their 2011 album "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming," which featured the ubiquitous track "Midnight City." This anthemic song became the defining hit for Gonzalez's project, blending saxophone solos, reverberating vocals, and infectious electronic beats. Following this success, M83 continued to evolve, releasing the ambient-influenced "DSVII" in 2019, a sequel to 2007's "Digital Shades Vol. 1." The band's intricate soundtracks, like the one for the film "Knife + Heart (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)," demonstrate Gonzalez's versatile approach to music composition. M83’s music continues to evolve and excite, as seen in their more recent singles like "Lune de fiel" and "Temple of Sorrow," where they maintain their niche in rich, atmospheric soundscapes that enchant listeners worldwide.
