El Chino Acordeón, whose birth name is José Hernández García, was born in 1975 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, and began studying the diatonic accordion at the age of five under the tutelage of his father, a local norteño musician; by his early teens he was performing with regional bands in the Monterrey area and in 1994 joined the popular norteño group Los Incomparables, where his virtuoso improvisations and distinctive melodic phrasing helped the band achieve national radio success, and after a decade of touring he launched a solo career in 2005 releasing his debut album “Cadenas de Acero,” which featured the hit single “El Corrido del Chino” and cemented his reputation as one of the leading accordionists in contemporary Mexican folk and norteño music, leading to collaborations with artists such as Los Tigres del Norte, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, and a Grammy‑nominated appearance on the tribute album “Raíces del Norte” in 2012; he continues to tour internationally, recording new material that blends traditional accordion styles with modern pop and electronic elements while also mentoring young musicians through workshops and his own “Escuela de Acordeón El Chino.”
