Massimo Biolcati is a talented jazz bassist and composer known for his lyrical playing and wide-ranging collaborations. Born in Sweden to Italian and Hungarian parents and raised in Italy, he later moved to the United States to study at the Berklee College of Music and the Thelonious Monk Institute. Biolcati is perhaps best known as a founding member of the acclaimed collaborative trio Gilfema, alongside Lionel Loueke and Ferenc Nemeth, with whom he's explored a rich blend of jazz, African, and European influences.
In addition to Gilfema, Biolcati has released music as a bandleader, including albums that feature top-tier musicians like Lionel Loueke, Aaron Parks, Kendrick Scott, and others. His work often combines deep grooves, melodic nuance, and inventive improvisation, reflecting both his global background and his deep roots in the jazz tradition. Beyond his performance career, he's also the creator of iReal Pro, a popular music practice app widely used by musicians around the world.
