Buga

Jesse King, popularly known as **Buga**, is a Nigerian musician renowned for his contemporary Afrocentric sound that blends Yoruba cultural elements with modern Afro-jazz and Highlife vibes. Born into a clergy family from Okpella, Edo State, and raised in Lagos, his musical journey started in the church choir, where he learned the fundamentals of music through hymns and symphonies. He later studied at Ondo State University and launched his professional career with the release of his debut album "Buga" in 2006, which quickly became influential for Yoruba indigenous music and Nigerian Highlife.

Buga’s music is deeply rooted in Yoruba language and culture, often featuring proverbs and themes of unity, heritage, and social issues. His sound is a mix of traditional rhythms and contemporary melodies, epitomized by tracks like "Buga," "Adehun," and "Mummy," the latter celebrating African women. Over the years, he has become a voice of cultural pride and social awareness in Nigerian music, inspiring a broad audience with his lyrical depth and infectious beats.
