Donald Sinta

Donald Sinta is a highly respected American classical saxophonist known for his expertise in contemporary saxophone music and his exceptional technical skill. Born in Detroit in 1937, he earned his Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan and became prominent for premiering more than 40 works by American composers. Sinta served as a professor at the University of Michigan for 40 years and was the first elected chair of the World Saxophone Congress in 1969. Beyond performance, he has significantly influenced saxophone education, directing programs such as the Michigan Youth Ensembles and Interlochen's All-State Program. His recordings, including the internationally acclaimed *American Music for the Saxophone* and works like William Walton’s *Façade* and George Crumb’s *Quest*, highlight his distinguished career.

A true pioneer in the saxophone community, Sinta blends orchestral string traditions into modern saxophone playing, which has earned him acclaim as both a soloist and educator. His album *Belle nuit*, featuring collaborations with pianist Kathryn Goodson, exemplifies his wide-ranging repertoire and artistry.
