Langan, Frost & Wane is a collaborative folk trio consisting of American singer-songwriters Brian Langan, RJ Gilligan (aka Frost), and Nam Wayne (aka Wane). Their self-titled album showcases a rich blend of traditional folk influences, the English folk revival of the 60s, and psychedelic-tinged electric folk from the late 60s and early 70s. The group’s music is characterized by an eclectic mix of instruments including bouzouki, mandolin, harpsichord, flutes, sitar, and Middle and Far Eastern instrumentation, weaving together diverse sounds from Appalachia, India, and the Mediterranean. Their songs evoke a mystical and pastoral vibe, touching on themes of alchemists, wizards, plants, and ancient folklore, with tracks like *Learn The Name Of The Plants* and *Perhaps The Sorcerer* exemplifying their unique style. The trio’s work is a labor of love, recorded with organic arrangements and experimental touches that pay homage to the 60s "peace and love" era folk scene while carving out their own sonic path.
The project began as a collaboration between Langan and Frost, who wanted to explore musical ideas that didn’t fit into their other work, with Frost running a studio and label that allowed them to experiment with different sounds. Nam Wayne joined the duo after an impromptu songwriting session, cementing the trio’s formation. Their music features finger-plucked guitar melodies enhanced with 'found sound' and a variety of global instruments, creating an immersive folk experience that both honors and reinvigorates traditional folk music.
