Stornoway

Stornoway is an indie folk-pop band from Oxford, England, known for their rich harmonies, poetic lyrics, and a sound that blends acoustic instrumentation with a touch of experimental flair. Formed in the mid-2000s, the band quickly captured attention with their 2010 debut album, Beachcomber’s Windowsill, which featured the standout track “Zorbing.” Their music often explores themes of nature, love, and introspection, drawing on the band members' backgrounds in science and nature conservation.

Fronted by lead vocalist and lyricist Brian Briggs, Stornoway built a loyal fan base with their heartfelt live performances and accessible yet distinctive sound. Over the years, they released several critically acclaimed albums, including Tales from Terra Firma and Bonxie, the latter of which incorporated birdsong and ecological themes. After initially disbanding in 2017, the band reunited in 2023, delighting fans with new music and a renewed energy. Their recent releases reflect a matured sound while staying true to the melodic charm that first made them favourites on the UK indie scene.
