Philip Arkwright is a notable figure in the world of music, particularly as the former Organist and Master of the Music at Buckfast Abbey. Born in St Helens, Merseyside, he began his musical career as an Organ Scholar and later graduated from Liverpool Hope University with a combined honours degree in Theology and Religious Studies, with Music. Before joining Buckfast Abbey in 2013, Arkwright spent twelve years at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, where he was involved in various musical projects, including founding a choir of girl choristers. At Buckfast Abbey, he has been instrumental in developing the musical tradition, which includes a wide repertoire of early polyphonic music and contemporary compositions.
Philip Arkwright has also been involved in several musical releases associated with Buckfast Abbey, such as "Puer natus est: Christmas Day Mass from Buckfast Abbey" and "Ave Maria: First Vespers of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Buckfast." Recently, he transitioned into a senior role as the Chief Executive Officer of Buckfast Abbey, vacating his position as Master of the Music, which is now held by Matthew Searles.
