The Ditties are a Lithuanian close-harmony group formed in 2011 by Rūta Švipaitė and Veronika Čičinskaitė-Golovanova while they were studying jazz vocals at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Later, Rūta Jakulytė-Valčiukienė joined the group. Inspired by classic acts like The Andrews Sisters and The Boswell Sisters, The Ditties blend intricate harmonies with scat singing and instrumental vocal imitations. Their music reflects personal struggles and aspirations, as well as the complexities of Lithuanian society. Over time, they have evolved from performing early swing music to creating original compositions, often incorporating elements of popular English and Lithuanian pop songs.
The Ditties' style is characterized by its playful and joyful nature, reminiscent of early jazz that emerged during the war years as a tool to spread happiness. Their music requires a high level of professionalism, with a focus on swing technique, phrasing, and a well-developed ear for harmony. The group aims to bring joy and light to their listeners, reflecting their passion for music and their connection to the rich jazz heritage of Lithuania.
