Henry Shek

Henry Shek is a renowned conductor and music director, known for his extensive work in promoting music globally. He was inspired to become a conductor by Sir Malcolm Sargent and studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he focused on piano, theory, composition, and conducting. After graduating with distinction in Orchestral Conducting, Shek worked as an assistant conductor for Maestro Yasushi Akutagawa at the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and the New Symphony Orchestra in Japan. He has conducted over 80 prestigious orchestras, opera houses, and ballet companies across Europe, the United States, and Asia.

Shek has held significant positions, including Music Director of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra from 1993 to 1997 and Principal Conductor until 1999. During his tenure, he internationalized Chinese symphonic music and produced several successful recordings. His repertoire spans a wide range of genres, from Broadway musicals to jazz. Shek is dedicated to nurturing young musicians and promoting Hong Kong as a cultural hub. His recent releases include albums featuring Hong Kong TV & Movie Classics and other notable works like "The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto" and "Broadway Choral Favourites."
