U-Brown

U-Brown, born Huford Brown on November 25, 1956, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a renowned reggae DJ with a career stretching back to the roots of the dancehall movement. He started his musical journey influenced by the toasting styles of U-Roy and found his groove amid the burgeoning reggae scene of the 1970s. By adopting U-Roy's melodic delivery and infusing it with his own lyrical inventiveness, U-Brown carved out a distinctive presence on the sound system circuit.

Throughout his career, U-Brown has been associated with some of the heavyweight producers and studios that have defined the genre. His works, including 'Hit Sounds From Channel One 1979-80,' showcase his time at the famous Channel One Studio, where his flow over rocksteady and early dancehall beats cemented his status as a respected voice in reggae music. U-Brown's influence can be traced through his collaborations with and mentorship of younger artists, making him an integral figure in the evolution of reggae and dancehall. Though not as internationally known as some of his contemporaries, U-Brown has maintained a dedicated following, revered for tracks like "Tu Sheng Peng" and "Sound Business," and he's celebrated for his consistent ability to move crowds and stir the spirit with his rhythmic declamations and Rastafarian-inspired messages.
