Peter Pontvik is a renowned musician and conductor, best known for founding and leading Ensemble Villancico, a group celebrated for its interpretations of early music from Latin America. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1963, Pontvik has studied composition, musicology, singing, and choir conducting in Sweden, Uruguay, and Germany. He has composed chamber music and works for choir and orchestra and has conducted extensive research in early music. Pontvik is also the founder and artistic director of the Stockholm Early Music Festival, established in 2002. He has received several awards, including the "Promoter of the Year 2004" from Swedish Music Festivals and the "Swedish Early Music Award 2010."
Under Pontvik's direction, Ensemble Villancico has released several notable albums, including "El tren invisible," "¡Fiesta Barroca Latina," and "Hy Hy Hy Hy Hy Hy The new jungle book of the Baroque." These releases showcase the ensemble's expertise in early world music, particularly from Latin America.
