Half Formed Things

Half Formed Things is an experimental pop band based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The band spent three years crafting their debut album, *To Live in the Flicker*, which was released in May 2019. This album is characterized by its dark, multilayered soundscapes, incorporating grandiose piano and percussion arrangements. The themes explored in the album range from mental health and toxic masculinity to the psychology of procreation, reflecting a high literary influence. The band's name is inspired by Eimear McBride's novel *A Girl Is a Half-formed Thing*, indicating a thematic connection with their music. Initially, the band consisted of four members, but they have since transitioned to a three-piece lineup following the departure of singer/percussionist Nici Hosking.

The band's creative process is collaborative and flexible, with no single principal songwriter. They recorded *To Live in the Flicker* in a flat in Edinburgh's Leith district, incorporating ambient sounds from their surroundings into the album. This approach gives the record a living, breathing quality that reflects the band's evolution over time. Half Formed Things have been preparing for tours and are working on new material, marking a new phase in their musical journey.
