Field Report is an American folk band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, led by singer-songwriter Chris Porterfield. The band's name is an anagram of the band leader's surname and reflects a deeply lyrical approach to storytelling, painting intimate and honest narratives of life's intricate experiences. Porterfield began his music career as a member of the band DeYarmond Edison, which also included Justin Vernon of Bon Iver fame, but after their disbandment, he embarked on a solo path that eventually culminated in the foundation of Field Report.
With a sound that blends folk sensitivity with a subtle electronic edge, Field Report has garnered significant acclaim for their craft since their eponymous debut album in 2012. Their music has evolved over the years, navigating through themes of love, existential reflection, and navigating the evolving landscape of American life. Highlight releases such as "Summertime Songs" showcase the band's ability to evoke the feelings of yearning and the passage of time, while live sessions like "Field Report on Audiotree Live" capture the raw and resonant energy of their performances. Songs like "Brake Light Red Tide" and "Blind Spot" further display Porterfield's evocative lyricism and the band’s deft instrumentation, sealing Field Report's reputation as a poignant voice in contemporary folk and indie music.
