Patrick Gleeson is an American composer and synthesist best known for his pioneering work in electronic music and for bringing early synthesizer technology into orchestral and film contexts. In the early 1970s he released the influential album *Electronic Realizations for Rock Orchestra*, and he later became widely recognized for his computer/synth interpretations of classical repertoire, including projects like *An Electronic Portrait of Holst’s The Planets* and his electronic take on Vivaldi’s *The Four Seasons*.
Gleeson also made a strong mark in film, composing the original score for the animated feature *The Plague Dogs* (1982). Across decades of work, he’s been associated with the Bay Area’s adventurous music scene and is often cited as one of the key figures who helped normalize synthesizers as expressive, “serious” instruments rather than novelty gear.
