Ben Cook's **GUV** (formerly Young Guv) is a prolific Toronto-born musician and songwriter who's been quietly shaping contemporary guitar music for nearly two decades. Beyond his solo work, Cook's fingerprints are all over the modern punk and indie landscape—he's been screaming and playing guitar in the legendary hardcore band No Warning since the '90s, has toured with Fucked Up since 2006, and has done extensive co-writing and production work behind the scenes. In the summer of 2018, he relocated to Brooklyn and began crafting some of his best material, channeling that creative energy into GUV releases that blend everything from '60s and '70s pop sensibilities to '90s alt-rock, Britpop, power pop, and shoegaze influences.
GUV's music is marked by irresistible hooks, jangly guitars, and an ever-shifting sonic palette that refuses to stay in one lane. His latest album, *Warmer Than Gold*, released in January 2026 via Run For Cover Records, showcases this evolution—merging bulletproof indie-pop melodies with danceable breakbeats and swirling textures, drawing inspiration from early-'90s Madchester and classic indie pop. Throughout his career, Cook has remained refreshingly unpretentious about his influences and collaborations, wearing his inspirations on his sleeve while maintaining a distinctive voice that feels both nostalgic and entirely contemporary.
