Alexander Arutiunian
Alexander Arutiunian was a celebrated Armenian composer and pianist, best known for his vibrant Trumpet Concerto in A-flat major, a staple in the repertoire of trumpet soloists around the world. Born in Yerevan in 1920, Arutiunian studied at the Yerevan State Conservatory before furthering his education at the Moscow Conservatory. His music blends Armenian folk influences with Romantic and Soviet styles, resulting in compositions full of lyrical melodies and rhythmic drive.
In addition to the trumpet concerto, Arutiunian composed a broad range of works including orchestral pieces, chamber music, and concertos for other instruments like piano and violin. He was an influential figure in Armenian music and held various cultural leadership roles in his home country throughout his life. Arutiunian passed away in 2012, leaving behind a musical legacy that continues to inspire performers and audiences alike.
