Ataxia

Based on the releases provided ("Aw II", "Automatic Writing II", "Automatic Writing"), this refers to the experimental rock project **Ataxia**.

Ataxia was a fascinating, short-lived collaboration formed in 2004 by **John Frusciante** (Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist/vocalist) and **Joe Lally** (bassist from Fugazi). They were soon joined by drummer **Josh Klinghoffer** (who later also played with RHCP). The whole project was incredibly spontaneous – the trio wrote and recorded their first album, *Automatic Writing*, in just one week during a break in Frusciante's schedule. True to their improvisational spirit, the music is raw, expansive, and driven by extended instrumental explorations, showcasing a distinct vibe from the members' main bands.

A second session yielded enough material for the follow-up, *Automatic Writing II*, released a few years later in 2007. Despite the brief lifespan and limited output (just those two albums), Ataxia developed a dedicated following drawn to its intense, free-flowing, and atmospheric sound. The project has remained inactive since those initial recordings, but the two albums stand as a unique document of these talented musicians stepping outside their usual contexts to create something truly distinctive together.
