Trevor Pinnock

Trevor Pinnock is an eminent English harpsichordist and conductor, renowned for his expertise in the performance of Baroque and early Classical music. Born on December 16, 1946, in Canterbury, Pinnock’s extensive career is marked by his passionate commitment to historically informed performance practices, a movement aimed at performing classical music using the techniques and instruments that were available when the music was written.

Pinnock's musical journey started early; at the age of 15, he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London where he studied the harpsichord. He later formed the English Concert in 1972, an orchestra specializing in performances with period instruments, leading them to international acclaim. Under his direction for over 30 years, the English Concert helped to define the very essence of the early music revival. As a solo performer and recording artist, Trevor Pinnock has also made an indelible mark on the world of classical music, with an extensive discography that demonstrates not only his virtuosity as a harpsichordist but also his skill in conducting and interpreting the works of the Baroque masters. His most recent releases, including transformative takes on Bach's Partitas reimagined for small orchestra and thorough renderings of The Well-Tempered Clavier, as well as other works by Handel and Louis Couperin, continue to showcase his enduring artistry and deep understanding of Baroque sensibilities.
