Adam and the Ants were a pivotal English new wave rock band active during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Led by the charismatic Adam Ant, born Stuart Leslie Goddard on November 3, 1954, in London, the band evolved from an early punk background to become a central figure in the New Romantic movement. Their music career began with the debut album *Dirk Wears White Sox* in 1979, but it was their second album, *Kings of the Wild Frontier* (1980), that catapulted them to fame. This album reached number one in the UK Album Chart and included hits like "Antmusic." Their third and final album, *Prince Charming* (1981), featured two UK number-one singles: "Stand and Deliver" and "Prince Charming." The band disbanded in March 1982, after which Adam Ant pursued a successful solo career.
Adam and the Ants are remembered for their unique blend of punk energy and pop sensibilities, as well as their flamboyant style, which was emblematic of the New Romantic era. Their music videos, such as those for "Antmusic" and "Stand and Deliver," became staples of MTV's early years. The band's legacy continues to influence contemporary music, with their iconic songs remaining popular decades after their release.
