Carles Magraner is a Spanish musician and early music specialist born in 1962 in Almussafes, Valencia. He studied cello and musicology at conservatories in Valencia, Toulouse, and Amsterdam, specializing in baroque cello and viola da gamba. In 1987, Magraner founded the early music ensemble Capella de Ministrers, which he continues to direct. The group focuses on performing and recording medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music, with a particular emphasis on the musical heritage of the Iberian Peninsula.
As a performer and scholar, Magraner has contributed significantly to the field of early music. He holds a PhD in Music from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and teaches early music at the Conservatory of Castellón. Magraner has also lectured at various universities and participated in numerous music festivals and seminars. His work with Capella de Ministrers has resulted in over 1500 concerts and a substantial discography, earning critical acclaim and several awards.
