Aarktica

Aarktica is the ambient/drone project of multi-instrumentalist Jon DeRosa, best known for his work in darkwave act Dead Leaves Rising and neoclassical collective Black Tape for a Blue Girl. Launched in 1998 as an experiment in "oceanic guitar minimalism," Aarktica became a vessel for DeRosa's exploration of isolation and sonic healing after he temporarily lost hearing in one ear. Their music blends glacial soundscapes, shoegaze textures, and reimagined classical pieces like their haunting take on Erik Satie's *Gymnopédie No. 1*. Recent releases like *We Will Find the Light* and *Blood Positive* soundtrack work continue their 25-year journey through melancholic beauty, balancing delicate piano waltzes with engulfing waves of distortion that feel equally suited for art galleries and insomniac headphone sessions.
