Veruca Salt

Veruca Salt is an American alternative rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1993 by Louise Post (vocals and guitar) and Nina Gordon (vocals and guitar). Named after a character from the novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," Veruca Salt quickly gained popularity with their catchy hooks, fierce riffs, and insightful lyrics about personal empowerment and emotional turbulence. The band's original lineup was rounded out by Steve Lack (bass) and Jim Shapiro (drums), Gordon's brother.

The release of their debut album "American Thighs" in 1994, anchored by the hit single "Seether," launched Veruca Salt into the mainstream, and they became one of the most notable acts of the post-grunge era. The band's 1997 follow-up album, "Eight Arms to Hold You," produced by Bob Rock, included another popular track, "Volcano Girls," and showed the band expanding their sound with more polished production and varied songwriting. However, internal discord led to Gordon's departure in 1998 following the tour for that album. Post continued to lead Veruca Salt through lineup changes and releases such as "Resolver" (2000), maintaining the band's presence in the music scene despite a shift in public taste away from their '90s rock roots. After a hiatus, the original lineup of Veruca Salt reunited in 2013, releasing "Ghost Notes" in 2015—a triumphant return to form that revisited the band's core strengths with fresh energy and reflection, as heard in standout tracks like "The Museum of Broken Relationships" and "It's Holy." The band’s enduring appeal and influence are rooted in their blend of grungy rawness and melodic prowess, elements that continue to inspire a loyal following and welcome new fans into the fold.
